The Nissan Kicks is expected to launch in the India market as a 2018 model during the festive season of 2018 (Around February-March)

Expected prices for the Nissan Kicks will be

Base : Rs 8 lakh ($12,400 USD)
Top trim : Rs 12 lakh ($18,600 USD)

India will be getting a lower engine displacement compared to the model in Brazil currently which could potentially mean it will be coming with a 1.5L diesel.

It'll be competing with the Fiat 500x, Renault Duster, and the Honda Vezel

What's the approximate conversion rate to USD? (obviously isn't USD pricing but just to get a better idea)

I do agree with you that even a base that costs $12.4k is desirable but not realistic. Maybe it's something to do with freight and all of those other things? Or a really cut down bare bones base model?

Not really bare bones, but we have to take into account taxes and import fees. Then there are the slight variations that certain markets get; i.e. Canada gets heated seats as standard. Of course that may not be the case, just using it as an example.

The India model could be the very bare bones with the cheapest parts available.

One thing to consider is what India gets as a base will be different from North America.

Just looking at what the HR-V, CH-R and other rivals are priced like, I will be surprised if Nissan prices this below $20k. Its a low $20k start product.

The Dubai brochure shows three trims; S, SV and SL. I'm guessing base trim is S and the top trim is SL, so how much is the SV trim?

Don't need to guess, just look at the Nissan lineup and you'll see, that's it.

A few key differences between the SV and the S (base) is the SV gets nicer wheels, push button start, power seats, power mirrors with integrated signals, auto headlights, and dual zone climate control

Looking at the Rogue Sport:
S is at $21,420
SV is at $23,020
SL is at $26,070

That's not such a large price difference between the S and SV trims, may as well pay a bit more for those features that I'll definitely use since they're already in my current car. But from S to SL is a larger price jump that some buyers may not be wiling to swallow.

I agree. For an extra ~$1500 you're getting quite the value. The convenience of power seats, mirrors, and push start alone is enough to make me go with the SV. Add the other features and I'm a happy camper.

The auto headlights feature is a great one to have and something I've come to rely on in my current vehicles. I think it's illegal to have your lights off at night and sometimes I do forget to turn them off, so an automatic sensor that turns it on and off for me on top of the other features could seal the deal.

I typically have my lights on all the time actually haha. It's force of habit for me to turn the lights on including foglights as soon as I get in the car. My vehicles also chime annoyingly after I turn them off and open the doors to tell me the lights are still on so that's a good reminder.

its up to the cops discretion since some day time running lights are bright enough to keep you legal or at least easily visible to other drivers. numerous times i left a parking lot, forgot to turn light settings on to full and had a cop either behind, ahead or across the street turning my way.

Forget about the ticket or whatever the case is. If your DRL is bright enough for the front, that's great, but you realize that you're parking lights for the rear aren't on as well and that poses a safety concern.

Didn't think about the rear safety concern with just the daytime system running. Never actually checked, but do the reverse and brake lights become brighter in night setting or is it always the same degree of brightness?

It's always the same degree of brightness. So either the parking lights are on or they aren't. They only get brighter, obviously, when you hit the brakes :) The DRL is the only light that is on during the "off" setting.

I bet in the future as infotainment systems become more integrated with our cars we'll be able to choose from a range of light settings by market type. Its probably the best thing to do since some people want to be more visible meanwhile others just use whatever is available.

Light settings all comes down to regulation so there's really no need for it. Tail lights especially are bright enough, with the increasing use of LEDs now it's even brighter and well more than enough lol.
