On 3 different Kicks I have driven, including my own, the DTE does not properly reset unless you fill the tank.
I suspect this is because the kicks doesn't have a smart fuel level sensor and rather a float. Therefore, the computer does not register the updated fuel quantity until the float is sitting on top.
